Joseph Michael Gast, Sr., age 76, of Whiteford, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Marie (Frank) Gast and devoted husband of 55 years to Lynn (Robinson) Gast.

Joseph's life was marked by extraordinary achievements and unwavering dedication. He attended Marshall University, where he distinguished himself as a formidable athlete, contributing to the renowned "We Are Marshall" Team. Joseph's passion for sports extended beyond the field, earning him a revered place in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Following his athletic pursuits, Joseph dedicated himself to shaping the lives of countless students as a physical education teacher and coach at Eastern Technical High School in Essex, MD. His impact was profound, spanning a remarkable 39-year career until his retirement in 2009.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Joseph found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a devoted family man, cherishing moments spent watching his grandchildren excel in sports, a source of immense pride for him. In his leisure time, Joseph found solace and satisfaction in tending to his garden, nurturing life and beauty with his own hands.

Joseph's legacy of love, strength, and resilience will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Gast; his cherished daughter, Jodi Lynn (Benjamin) Gast-Woodard; his beloved son, Joseph Michael (Pamela) Gast, Jr.; his dear brother, Wayne Alan (Mary) Gast, Sr.; and his adored grandchildren, Kara Mae Dragunas (Jensen Morris), Ryan Joseph Dragunas, Trent David Gast-Woodard (Lily Pitzer), Jacob Joseph Gast(Breanna Fritsch), and Emilee Jo Gast-Woodard. Nephew Wayne Alan (Yvette) Gast, Jr. , niece Jaime Nicole(Bunky) Arrick and many other nieces and nephews.
