John Robert Webb was a quiet man of conviction. He was the third child of Robert and Francis Webb. From his parents he acquired the strength of commitment.
On a beautiful Chicago summer day he informed his future wife, Cathy, that his life had a focus – to take care of others. And, that is what he did.
He walked beside his mother, Frances, on the path of Alzheimer's while nurturing his children – Michael and Steven, boys approaching manhood, and Nettie Jo, his newest addition in his 40s. He dreamed, researched, planned, provided, and loved deeply, honoring his mother and father as he guided his family.
He worked as a tax practitioner independently and with Michael Harrison in Lynchburg, Va. He built bonds with many on this path, focusing on personal encounters through home visits to clients.
He found a lovely corner brick home on Byrd Street to share with his wife, Cathy. They started this path during the fall of 1982, at a Youth Alternative banquet in Cheyenne, WY. John was stationed at the F.E. Warren Air Force Base and Cathy was soon to graduate from their alma mater, the University of Wyoming. This path he filled with the love of church, neighbors, Volvos, lacrosse, kayaking & canoeing, the West, and his penno tandem “Big Red.”
His fourth path he walked daily with his companion, Sadie, a loving labradoodle. Together, they did Contemplative Prayer – sitting and listening to God – as He led him through life. On this path, John found peace which he spread to those he cared about deeply.
These paths formed a life of 66 years filled to the brim with John’s smile, care for others, love of nature, and nurturing of his family. He truly lived a great life caring for others.
Thank you to all who walked with him…we are all just walking each other HOME.
Thanks be to God.
In remembrance of John’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Park View Community Mission in Lynchburg, Va.
