John Robert Struve, age 91, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Bel Air. He was born in Valparaiso, Indiana, to his father, George Theodore William Martin Struve, and his mother, Ruth Theresa “Babe” (Rosenbaum) Struve, both of whom preceded him in death. John was a proud United States Army Veteran. After graduating from Valparaiso University, he was drafted into the Army and stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Upon being stationed there, he made Harford County his home beginning in the late 1950s. At the age of 35, John was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a challenge he faced with courage, perseverance, and deep faith. He lived his life rooted in a strong Christian faith, having been born Lutheran and remaining a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
John was married for 23 years to his beloved wife, Jamey Struve. He was previously married to Laura Miller Struve, who preceded him in death. He was a gifted and lifelong athlete, participating in basketball, baseball, and track throughout high school and college. He excelled in fast-pitch softball and even pitched for the Army. An avid bowler, John proudly rolled a perfect 300 game and enjoyed giving back to his community by coaching Little League. He was also musically talented, playing both the accordion and piano, and while in college was a member of an a cappella quartet. A skilled and hardworking craftsman, John built two homes during his lifetime, including one of the first A-frame homes in Churchville, constructed with the help of his three sons. He was known by all who knew him as a humble, kind, and deeply respected man.
John is survived by his wife, Jamey Struve; his sons, Douglas Struve, Dean Struve, and Darryl Struve, and Darryl’s spouse, Casandra Struve; his bonus daughters, Dawn Dorsett and Diane Miller, and Diane’s spouse, Bob Miller; his bonus son, David Mangano, and David’s spouse, Christine Mangano; his grandchildren, Morgan Kany and Morgan’s spouse, Tim Kany, Olivia Marsh and Olivia’s spouse, Dave Marsh, Casandra D’Agostino and Casandra’s spouse, John D’Agostino, Benjamin Struve and Benjamin’s spouse, Rachel Struve, and Jackson Struve and Jackson’s spouse, Jamie Struve; his bonus grandchildren, Enslie Dorsett, Caroline Dorsett, Wesley Miller, Matthew Miller, and Benjamin Miller; his stepchildren from his marriage to the late Laura Miller Struve: Kenny Miller and his wife, Michele, and Pam Ansalvish (Miller) and her husband, Johnny; his great-grandchildren, Norah, Grady, Maverick, Finn, Raegan, Brynlee, Beckett, and Paxton; his step-grandchildren, Cole Miller and Leigh Miller, Erin Ansalvish, Lauren Precht (Ansalvish) and her husband, Carrol, and Kate Ansalvish; his step-great-grandchildren, Bailey Precht and Hayden Precht; his bonus great-grandchildren, Elias, Cora, and Lila; and his sisters, Susan Trout, Mary Martin and her spouse, Mick Martin, and Betty Warner and her spouse, Wendel Werner.
