Obituary

John Shirley Jr., age 88, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Born in Stony Creek, John lived a full and meaningful life defined by his love of family, country, and simple joys.

John was the beloved son of the late Sherman Shirley and the late Thelma (Potts) Shirley.

He was the devoted husband of Deborah Patricia Shirley (Young). In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his sons: John (Monica) Shirley, III; Keith Shirley; and Travis Shirley. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara and Carol, and his brother, Calvin Shirley.

John was a proud retired veteran of the United States Army, having faithfully served his country. He carried that pride throughout his life and remained deeply appreciative of his time in service.

He enjoyed fishing and loved to play card games. John truly enjoyed living life and took pride in any accomplishments along the way. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to his family, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in John’s memory. https://t2t.org/

John’s legacy of love, service, and devotion to family will be cherished by all who knew him.
