IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John M.
Miles
July 31, 1933 – January 28, 2026
John M. Miles, age 92, of Fallston, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, John was the beloved son of John Miles, Sr., and Bernadine (Heying) Miles, both of whom preceded him in death.
John was the devoted husband of DeSales Miles, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran, having served honorably during the Korean War. John dedicated much of his life to public service as a Baltimore City Firefighter, retiring in 1981 with the rank of Lieutenant after being injured in the line of duty.
A man deeply committed to his community; John was a longtime member of the American Legion and the Fallston Lions Club. He was also actively involved in boating organizations, serving as a Commodore of the Otter Point Yacht Club, as well as a Commodore of the Chesapeake Commodores Club.
Pinochle was one of John's first loves—a game he cherished both at the table and in teaching others to play. Retirement from the fire department opened a new chapter: he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into The Furniture Clinic, his own business in Kingsville, Maryland. Adventure called to John through RV travels, boating and fishing expeditions, and family crab feasts. His love of football extended beyond watching games; he invested in the next generation as a little league coach.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Welsh.
He is survived by his children, Frances (Mike), Shelley (TJ), Jay (Michelle), Stephanie (Dave), and David; his grandchildren, Tommy, Michael, Tyler (Erin), Ryan (Nicole), and Christopher (Emma); his great-grandchildren, Liana, Sloane, Kiran, and Rowan; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers , 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
