IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John "Chief" Russell
Canose, Jr.
November 8, 1950 – March 5, 2026
John “Chief” Russell Canose, Jr., 75, of Joppa, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Baltimore. Born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Russell Canose, Sr. and Alice Marsh (Skiles) Canose.
As a child, John traveled the world with his parents while his father was in the military, often recalling his teenage years in Belgium. John graduated Edgewood High School in 1968 and after that attended SHAPE International High School in Belgium. He then worked as a bartender at Dear Mom Saloon in Edgewood, where he made many friends and gathered countless stories.
John proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in 2000. Following his military career, he later earned a degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then became a Police Officer at Aberdeen Proving Ground. John was a member of American Legion Post 0017 in Edgewood and the Edgewood VFW.
John had a passion for reading, history, current events, and old cowboy movies. He was known for his sense of humor, masterful storytelling, and valuing personal connections with old friends. He could effortlessly bring a room to laughter with his jokes and anecdotes.
After retirement, John enjoyed life alongside his dear friend, Deborah Jean Macarevich, who predeceased him in 2023.
