Joanne Marie Renjel, age 69, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, in Bethesda, Maryland. Born in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Alex John Stahelek and Marian Adelaide (Silveira) Stahelek, who raised her mostly in Harford County, where she spent most of her life.
Joanne was a 1979 graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She spent her nursing career at City Hospital, now known as Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, working as an emergency room nurse, and retired in 2020.
Joanne found her greatest joy spending time with and taking care of her family and adored her cats, Bella and Charley. She enjoyed reading, baking sweets, and watching reruns of classic tv shows, such as “I Love Lucy” and “Hazel.” She was a practicing catholic and was a longtime parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Hickory.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Renjel; her son, Alex (Elena) Renjel; her stepsons Louis (Nan) Renjel and Robert Renjel; her grandchildren, Charlotte and Patrick Renjel, Kai and Mila Renjel, and Martha Claire and Louis Renjel; and her sisters, Sharon Stahelek-Busby and Tami Stahelek.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McComas Family Funeral Homes in Bel Air (50 W Broadway, Bel Air, MD).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius Catholic Church (533 E Jarrettsville Road, Forest Hill, MD).
Interment will follow on January 13, 2026, at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
