Joanne H. Magness

December 29, 1935 — May 6, 2025

     Joanne H. Magness, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on May 6, 2025. Born on December 29, 1935, in Bellingham, Washington, to the late John and Frances Hendrickson. Joanne spent her life dedicated to her family and community, ultimately residing in Bel Air, Maryland.

     Joanne was a devoted member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she donated her time, money, and efforts including helping with the First Friday luncheons for seniors. Her commitment to service extended to her work as a volunteer English tutor at The John Carroll School and her involvement with the Baltimore Indo-China Center, supporting refugees in need. A passionate advocate for her community, she was a proud lifetime member of the Bel Air Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was honored to be inducted into the Harford and Cecil County Ladies Auxiliary Hall of Fame.

     Joanne is survived by her five children: Anthony "Tom" Magness (Michelle Magness), Madonna Magness-Simon (the late Howard Simon), Michael Magness, Karen Schauer (Stephen Schauer), and Andrew Magness (Betsy Magness). She leaves behind a loving legacy with her grandchildren: Julie Bell(Adam Bell), Kari Riegger (Richard Riegger), Corinne Simon (Joshua Campbell), John Magness, Samantha Baker (Michael Baker), and Kevin Magness (Heather Magness) Katherine Magness, Garrett Single and beloved great-grandchildren.

     Friends and family will gather to honor Joanne's life with visitation at McComas Family Funeral Homes in Bel Air on May 12, 2025, 3 – 5 pm and again at 7 – 9 pm. A brief prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. to honor Joanne’s memory and lift her spirit in prayer. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Catholic Church on May 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery at 11:45 AM.

     Joanne's warmth, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be dearly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. 

     In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband Vernon Magness, sisters Delsey and Virginia Hendrickson and brothers Jay Hendrickson, Harvey Hendrickson and Robert Hendrickson.
