Obituary

Joan M. Haggerty, 88, of Bel Air, MD passed away on August 15, 2026. Born in Baltimore, MD she was the daughter of the late Carl George Renstrom and Elizabeth Margaret (Beddoe) Renstrom and the beloved wife of the late John Francis Haggerty.

Joan was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend who was surrounded by the love of her family. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, lively spirit, and the genuine joy she found in being surrounded by people she loved.

She was the Director of the Classified Staff at Harford Community College and proudly served as President of Upper Chesapeake Volunteers. She was a life member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and remained deeply connected to her faith and church community throughout her life.

A true social butterfly, Joan loved people and never wanted to miss an opportunity to gather with family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bridge and other card games, and she especially loved Bingo and gatherings of all kinds at Avondell Brightview, where she made many dear friends. As she grew older, she was determined not to be left out of any event or celebration.

She was an avid Orioles fan and had a special appreciation for crabs and seafood. One of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, proudly cheering them on from the stands. Above all, she loved her family dearly and treasured every moment spent with them.

She was a dear and devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. Her kindness, enthusiasm, friendship, and love of family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joan is survived by her children, Kathleen Mary (John) Heiser, Terence Joseph (Sandra) Haggerty, Daniel James (Kelly) Haggerty and Elizabeth Mary (Christopher) Birth; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Haggerty.
