Jo Ann Kopp, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Bel Air, Maryland. She was 59 years old.
Born in Amityville, Long Island, New York, Jo Ann was the daughter of the late Joseph and Celeste (Passcucci) Parrino. She spent the majority of her childhood in Hollywood, Florida, before moving to Boca Raton, where her and Adam welcomed Emily into the world. They later moved up to Maryland, where she made her home for the past 19 years.
Jo Ann was the devoted wife of Adam Kopp and loving mother to their daughter, Emily Kopp. She is also survived by her brother, Ross Parrino and his wife Marianne; her sister, Kathi Hutson along with her children.
A dedicated educator, Jo Ann taught for over 15 years in Maryland. Most recently, she was a 3rd grade teacher at St. Margaret’s School in Bel Air, where she had also taught Pre-K classes. She previously worked at Harford Community College’s Early Learning Center and the Children’s Center of North Harford. Her passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to her students left a lasting mark on countless young lives. Her legacy lives on in these students.
Jo Ann was a true warrior. Diagnosed with cancer in early 2020, she faced her six-year battle with remarkable strength, a positive attitude, and a smile that never faded. Even during treatments and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jo Ann continued teaching, caring for her family, and inspiring others. Determined to reach her goals, she returned to college and proudly earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from the Notre Dame of Maryland University in December of 2022.
She lived by the three F’s: Family, Food, and Fun. Jo Ann’s life was centered around those she loved. She was a constant support in Emily’s life, especially in her schooling and swimming activities. Jo Ann even stepped up and became Emily’s high school swim coach when the need was present, even with no formal coaching experience. She went out of her way to personally learn how to write sets and coach to the best of her ability, and eventually led the team to win Catholic High’s first Conference Championship.
Her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Please keep her, and her family, in your thoughts during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jo Ann’s memory to: Kaufman Cancer Center, 500 Upper Chesapeake Drive, Bel Air, MD 21014 or to American Cancer Society, 405 Williams Court, Suite 120, Baltimore, MD 21220
