Jeanette Standiford Smith went home to the Lord on June 30, 2023 at the age of 87.
Jeanette was born on November 18, 1935, in White Hall Maryland to Edwin and Mary Standiford. After graduation from Sparks High School, Jeanette worked at Harford Mutual Insurance Company as a secretary until her marriage. She married Ross Smith, Jr. in 1955. Together they worked to improve and grow My Lady’s Manor Farm, which is currently running under its fifth generation. Jeanette actively helped with the farm operation by maintaining all accounts and records.
Throughout her life, Jeanette was devoted to her Christian faith. As a member of St John’s Lutheran Church Sweet Air, she served in many capacities including Council President for two terms and substitute organist. She was also a substitute organist for many local churches in the community playing for Sunday services, funerals, and weddings.
Jeanette’s many hobbies included cooking for her family, sewing, needlework, quilting and smocking. She enjoyed making dresses for her granddaughters and neckties for her grandsons. As a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Jeanette delivered meals for 20 years. In 2017, Jeanette was named a Harford County Living Treasure.
Predeceased by her parents and 10 siblings, Jeanette is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ross Smith, Jr., her four children: Ross Smith III (Michele), Robert Smith (Mary - “Sam”), Lois Galinat (Brian) and Harold Smith II (Kay), eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
