Janis “Peanut” Rivers, age 60 of Edgewood, Maryland left the ICU at University of Maryland Hospital bound for Heaven on Monday, December 29, 2025.

On December 29, 1965, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, the late Hayes “Buster” Harris III and Wanda Louise (Vance) Harris welcomed their third child, a peanut-shaped bundle for which Janis received her lifelong nickname.

In addition to being welcomed by both her parents, elder brother, Rickey E. Harris Sr., niece Mary K. (Lehmann) Harris, and an entire host of family met Peanut at the gates of Heaven with open arms.

Left to celebrate Peanut’s life, her son Steven James Rivers Jr. (Adam Wilson) of Edgewood, Maryland; elder sister Anita L. Arreo of Bel Air, Maryland; and younger brother Hayes “Buck” Harris IV. (Crystal) of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania. Peanut’s nephews and nieces: Rickey E. Harris Jr. (Manchester, Pennsylvania); Christina L. (Girken) Kilian (Scott) of Bel Air, Maryland; Hannah L. Harris and Hayes “Bobby” Harris V. both of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania. In 2022, Aunt Peanut was promoted to Great Aunt by Scott “Sj” Kilian of Bel Air, Maryland.

After graduating from Edgewood High School in 1983 Peanut worked several retail jobs before finding her professional calling as a Harford County School Bus Driver.

Peanut found great pleasure and enjoyment in baking, working puzzles of all types, her cats, and family.
