Janet Elizabeth Dattoli, age 82, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
Born in Baltimore, Janet was the beloved daughter of the late Edward William Smith and Lola Virginia (Little) Smith. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gertrude Petr and Phyllis Evans, and by her brother, John Kelly.
Janet is survived by her loving children: Stephanie Dattoli; Vincent Dattoli and his wife, Stacie; and Donna Cangelosi and her husband, John. She is also survived by her former spouse, Louis F. Dattoli, and her brother, Edward W. Smith II, and his wife, Lynda. In addition, she leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Daniel Schepers, Gina Wilbur, Ashley Meyer, Maria Schepers, Christina Jones, Lukas Dattoli, Christopher Dattoli, Francesca Cangelosi, Luca Cangelosi, and Dominic Cangelosi; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
A devoted Catholic, Janet was a faithful member of St. Margaret Parish in Bel Air. Deeply family-oriented, she treasured attending family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Janet enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and interests, including being an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, bowling, and reading. She loved playing the slots in Las Vegas, cross-stitching, and working through crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed watching her favorite game shows, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Above all else, Janet’s greatest joy was her family.
She was employed for many years in the Purchasing Department of Harford County Public Schools.
The Dattoli family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and compassionate care provided by the Kaufman Cancer Center at Upper Chesapeake, especially Dr. Bhuwan Poudyal and his amazing staff.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. at McComas Family Funeral Homes in Bel Air.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery on December 18, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
