James Leroy Saffran

March 25, 1949 — June 25, 2024

James Leroy Saffran, age 75, of Belcamp, Maryland, passed away on June 25, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late James and Florence Saffran and the beloved husband of Nancy Saffran.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. During his time of service, he was awarded 3 Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifice. He also spoke often of his lifelong friends he met during those times.

He was an avid motorcyclist who also enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and spending time with his wife at their camper in Cape May, NJ. Known for his warm and approachable nature, Jim was a person everyone seemed to gravitate towards. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting him, you were sure to hear one of his many sarcastic jokes or great stories.

He was a cherished part of the Epic Community Church in Aberdeen. The stories about his hugs and comfort have really stood out over the last few weeks to many of us. Whether it was attending a service or bible study he expressed that the community was like a piece of heaven on earth to him.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two children including his son, Neil and his wife Cathy Saffran; his stepson, Heath McMaster and Kristy Horas; his sisters, Beverly and her husband Allan Stepp and Linda A. Saffran; 3 grandchildren including, Nathan McMaster and Noah McMaster; his nieces, Laura Stepp, Brenda and her husband Steve Saddler, Amanda Mann, and Kimberly Wieber; as well as his beloved dog, Gerti. He is also survived by many friends and neighbors who were more like family to him.
