James Robert Baldwin

September 23, 1948 — June 25, 2025

James Robert Baldwin, 76, of Street, Maryland, passed away on June 25, 2025.

Born on September 23, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim was a proud Vietnam War veteran who served his country with courage and honor. After his military service in the army, he built a long and dedicated career as a welder at Aberdeen Proving Ground—a trade he approached with both skill and pride. Jim was a true artist and used his extensive welding talents in his retirement years to create a wide variety of metal sculptures and other items by repurposing discarded metal salvage. Jim absolutely loved going to yard sales and flea markets to search for items to use in new and creative ways. His most extensive project, an extraordinary security window made from discarded metal and tools, can be seen at Sonetta Community Market. Outside of work, Jim found joy in the simple things: tending to his garden, spending time outdoors, and sharing the unconditional love of his family, friends, and dogs. He was a quiet, steady presence - deeply loyal, hardworking, and kind. Jim was a friend to everyone. His humor and love for life touched the hearts of all who met him.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra; his three sons, Joshua, Marcus and wife Ramona, and David and wife Angela; his brother Tom and wife Chris. He was a proud grandfather to Trent, Jay, Dominic, Vincent, and Emma. In addition to his immediate family, Jim leaves behind a host of cherished friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

Jim will be remembered with love and gratitude known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, always ready with a joke, a laugh, or a perfectly timed one-liner that could brighten anyone’s day.
