Herman Peter Hagan, Sr.

October 26, 1938 — May 12, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Herman Peter Hagan, Sr., who departed this life on May 12, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 26, 1938, in Baltimore, MD, Herman lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service to his family and community.

Herman was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River where he received his electronics training. With his love of planes and skills in electronics, he was able to find a passenger seat on many test flights. Following his military service, he became a skilled electrician at Bethlehem Steel, where he proudly became the first Pennwood Power Station General Foreman without a college degree. He spent over 40 years contributing to his field with passion and expertise. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Ducks Unlimited, and Harford County Senior Center. Herman was known for his fishing and was an avid deer hunter. At 86, he was still cutting wood, hunting, shooting pool and bowling with his sons at Forest Hill Lanes with their team “Showtime” and they were in first place for the first half of the season.

Herman is remembered as a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Denise Johnson and her husband Mark, and sons, Herman Hagan, Jr. and his finance Susan Derlunas, Donald Hagan, Sr. and his wife Laura, and Ronald Hagan and his wife Brenda. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Christopher Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Cassandra Hagan, Herman “Bub” Hagan III, Donald Hagan, Jr., Richard Hagan, and Shawn Hagan, and step-grandchildren Jacqueline Simonson and Jessica Simonson and step-great grandchildren: Madeline Estes, and Christopher Blake-Griggs. He is also survived by his loving siblings, including his sisters Dorothy Hagan and Barbara Bakos, and brother David Hagan.

In addition to his parents John and Louise Hagan and wife Catherine “Cass” Emma Hagan, Herman was preceded in death by his brothers John Hagan, Jr., Charles “Steve” Hagan, Robert Hagan, and James Hagan and his step-grandson Christopher Griggs.

Herman Peter Hagan, Sr. will be sorely missed but forever remembered for his unwavering love, strength, and dedication to his family and friends. In our hearts, his spirit will live on, guiding us as we navigate the days ahead without him.
