Hammond Richard Bowerman, Sr., 87, of White Hall, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born in 1935 in the Govans neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, to Hammond and Elizabeth (Patterson) Bowerman, Hammond overcame his humble beginnings through a single-minded focus on honest labor -- first at a local printing press, then later as an entrepreneur founding several family businesses. He made it his life's mission to create a legacy of love and stability for the family who meant everything to him.

Hammond was a generous and magnanimous soul to those he loved. The many cookouts, crab feasts and casual karaoke parties hosted at his "farmhouse" were highlight of the extended family's social calendar. Hammond's absence will be especially felt at his co-hosted New Year's Eve celebrations, which doubled as his birthday party.

A true Maryland man, Hammond was proud of his home state -- and its seafood! He enjoyed visiting the Chesapeake Bay and watching the waves roll into the beach at Ocean City, especially when joined by his children and grandchildren.

While Hammond may no longer be with us, he leaves behind a legacy worthy of the most caring of fathers, husbands, and men.

Hammond is survived by his wife, Mercelita Ignacio Bowerman; daughters Kathleen (Joseph) Hartman and Karen (Thomas) Ellis; sons Richard Bowerman, Jr., Shannon (Mary) Bowerman, and Shawn Bowerman; grandchildren Wayne, Chris, Scott, Rachel, Jonathan, Nathan, Christian, and Ethan; and great-grandchildren Luke, Dean, Renny, Ari, Kenzy, and Juliana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Bowerman and sister, Joan Freidman.

For those who wish to remember Hammond's life and accomplishments in good company, his family invites you to his memorial service on May 13th at 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 8416 Bel Air Rd, Baltimore, MD 21236. He will be laid to rest at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens immediately following the service, then a reception will be held at 12pm at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall adjacent to the church.
