Henry Dean McNew, known to many as “Dean,” passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Bel Air, Maryland, at the age of 63. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dean was the beloved son of the late Henry Harvey McNew and Dorothy Sue (Crenshaw) McNew.
Dean is survived by his devoted wife, Denise McNew (née Korsmeier); his loving children, Andrea Chryst and her husband Nick, Megan Jones and her husband Andrew, Aleczander McNew, and stepchildren Rachel Toussaint and Andrew Brewer. He was the proud and deeply loved PaPa to eight grandsons, Brayden and Nathan Chryst, Isaac, Isaiah, AJ, and Malachi Jones, and Christian and Otto Toussaint, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his sisters, Cathy Rockman and Linda Ryea, and several nieces and nephews.
Dean’s family was his greatest joy. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. His kind heart, unwavering reliability, and thoughtfulness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A faithful member of Mountain Christian Church, Dean served selflessly over the years in many ministries including the Deaf Ministry, Special Needs Ministry, and the parking team. He also donated his time and expertise on mission trips to Ukraine, Romania, and Panama, and most recently at Indian Lake Christian Camp in Darlington, Maryland. His faith guided his life and actions, always leading with service and compassion.
Dean was deeply dedicated to his family business, McNew Excavating, Inc., where he spent the past 45 years, working much of that time side by side with his father, taking great pride in their shared legacy. Dean also had a passion for working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting furniture, exploring stained glass artistry, and even blacksmithing. Among his many accomplishments, he proudly designed and built three homes—true testaments to his creativity and skill.
Dean’s life reflected the same dedication and craftsmanship he brought to his work - marked by service to others and commitment to his community and family.
