George N. Potochney

George N. Potochney, age 88, of Joppa, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, at Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland. Born in Centralia, Pennsylvania, George was the son of the late George and Mildred (Krynitsky) Potochney and the beloved husband of 61+ years to Frances (Smink) Potochney.

George proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Joppatowne. He began his career at Bethlehem Steel in January 1959 as an electrician's helper and worked diligently for 40 years, retiring in September 1998 as the General Electrical Foreman for the slab and plate mills.

George enjoyed cheering for the Ravens, Orioles, and Terps and fondly remembered the days of the Baltimore Colts. He loved skiing, playing cards, fishing, and gathering with his extended family, cherishing the time spent with those he loved.

George is survived by his loving wife, Frances; sons, Randy (Joyce) Potochney, Nick (Jan) Potochney, Jr., and Sean (Lisa) Potochney; daughter, Tanya (Joseph) Smith; and grandchildren, Arwen Potochney, Brian and Amy Potochney, and Sydney and Ethan Smith. He is also survived by two sisters, Rita Shearn and Patricia Gidaro.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Guinther, Mildred Loftus, and Helen Dragovich.
