George Frederick Wimmer Jr passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the hospital surrounded by family. Born in West Chester, PA to George and Myrtle Wimmer. Fred attended West Chester High School and graduated in 1953.
Fred joined the US Air Force in Jan 1955. He completed basic training at Sampson AFB in New York and attended Tech school at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. He was known to all his 6913th Air Force buddy's as "Twitch". He shipped out to Bremerhaven Germany for three years. Fred played on the football team for 3 years which they won the championship 2 of them. He served on flight A (Moxnix) as a radio intercept operator.
Returning to the States he married Joy Ann Stevens of Downingtown, PA in 1959. They had two boys. Fred worked at Bicking paper mill and Pepperidge Farm in Downingtown PA. He was a fast pitch softball pitcher for many teams in Downingtown, Coatesville, West Chester, Abingdon VA, Philadelphia, and in Baltimore. He won over 200 games.
He then married MaryAnn Hilsee in Philadelphia while he was working at Friends Hospital. They then moved to Joppatowne when he took a job at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in charge of the Environmental Services department. He and MaryAnn had a girl in 1976.
He was involved with street rods and fixing up cars in the 1990s and 2000’s. He traveled around and spent each January in Mexico during the early 2000’s. He was a member of the Aberdeen Moose and Joppatowne Lions Clubs. Fred also coached his daughter’s softball teams with the Joppatowne Rec as she got older. He also loved to watch all his grand kids play sports when he could go to the fields. In 1982, he started GFW Janitorial and helped his wife MaryAnn who owned The Sunshine Factory in Edgewood. George was a huge Orioles and Ravens fan.
He is predeceased by his wife MaryAnn Wimmer in 2001.
He is survived by his 4 children Eddie Wimmer and wife Joanne, Tommy Wimmer, Mandi VanHorn and her husband Bill, and Cindi Gullivan and her husband Tom.
He is survived by 12 grandchildren including Eddie Wimmer, Michael Wimmer and wife Debbie, Tommy Wimmer and wife Elizabeth, Will VanHorn and wife Katelyn, James VanHorn and girlfriend Tanurah Plummer, MaryEllen VanHorn, Camden VanHorn, Chris Mayros and wife Dana, Amanda Mayros, McKenna Mahoney and husband Patrick, Cailey Gullivan and boyfriend Matt, and Tommy Gullivan.
He is also survived by his 11 great grandchildren including Stella Wimmer, David Wimmer, Blake Seiber, Kristen Seiber, James Seiber, Hudson VanHorn, Bryson Mahoney, Gavin Mahoney, Lucas Mahoney, Mavis Mayros, and Lila Mayros. One Great Great Grandchild Fawn Mullins.
