George "Tom"
Dunkes
Nov 25, 1938 — Sep 16, 2026
George “Tom” Dunkes, age 87, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Forest Hill, Maryland.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Tom was the beloved son of the late George Dunkes and the late Ellen Virginia (Thompson) Dunkes.
Tom devoted much of his life to his family, his work, his church, and the many hobbies he enjoyed. He was married to his beloved wife Dawn for 67 years, and his family was always the most important part of his life. He considered his family his greatest accomplishment and was always there for them. He especially enjoyed spoiling his loved ones and doting on Dawn.
Tom built a long and respected career working around automobile dealerships. During his years as an automotive technician, he became known as a top transmission mechanic. His expertise and dedication led to his promotion to Service Manager at Chesapeake Cadillac, where he continued to share his knowledge and experience.
A man of faith, Tom was a longtime member of St. Ignatius Church and served as an usher there for 25 years. His commitment to his church and community was an important part of his life.
Outside of work and church, Tom enjoyed many activities. He loved boating and took great pride in his boat, finding joy in time spent on the water. He was also a talented woodworker and created beautiful pieces with his skill and craftsmanship including cherished Christmas gifts for those lucky enough to be on “the list”. Tom enjoyed gardening and, in later years, especially loved rooting for the Baltimore Ravens.
Above all, Tom will be remembered as a devoted husband and family man. His generosity, craftsmanship, faith, and love for Dawn and his family will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Charles (Joann) Dunkes. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dawn Dunkes; his son, Christopher (Catharine) Dunkes; his grandchildren, Brittany (Matt) Jayko, Bryce (Ashley) Dunkes, and Bethany (Keith) Trageser; his great-grandchildren, Quinn, Owen, Eli, and Wyatt; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
