Gary A. Young

Gary A. Young, age 68, a resident of Joppa, Maryland, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2024, at Franklin Square Hospital in Rosedale, Maryland. Born in Canton, Ohio, he was the devoted son of the late Ross Alvin and Marjorie Louise (Freed) Young. Gary shared 47 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Deborah (Day) Young.

A proud veteran, Gary served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Beyond his military service, Gary was known for his green thumb, finding joy in nurturing and cultivating his plants. His passion extended to the grill, where he delighted in the art of cooking.

Prior to retiring 3 ½ years ago, Gary worked as a HVAC mechanic for 48 years in the Baltimore area. As a foreman, he has taught and guided many great workers in the industry. 

A cherished figure in the community, Gary was a beloved baseball coach during his sons' younger years, leaving a lasting impact on many children in the neighborhood. Affectionately known as the second dad to countless kids, Gary's kindness and guidance resonated with those he mentored.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Debbie, and their sons, Billy (wife Heather) Young and Mike (wife Katie) Young. He leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren: Emma Young, Addy Young, Ben Young, John Young, Reed Young, and Josephine Young.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie Young, and Billy Young.
