Garlin Ray Hobson, Jr., age 73, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Born in Maryland, Garlin was the beloved son of the late Garlin Ray Hobson, Sr. and the late Betty Jean (Parker) Hobson.

Garlin shared his life with his beloved wife, Patricia Hobson. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was truly the heart of his family. As the only boy among four children, with three sisters, family was always at the center of his life. He was especially proud of his four daughters, whom he loved dearly, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Garlin dedicated 23 years of service as a Baltimore County Sheriff before retiring. Outside of his career, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing whenever he had the chance. He was also a proud member of the Free Masons and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Garlin is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Hobson; his daughters, Rosie (Brian) Mohr, Kelly (Joe) Spidell, Sarah (Gus) Yates, and Jessica (Deryk) Elder; and his cherished grandchildren, Madalynn, Cole, Luke, Abigail, Max, Hailey, Jaxon, and Amilynn.

In addition to his wife and family, Garlin leaves behind many relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Garlin will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to serving his community, and the many memories he created with those he loved. His kindness, strength, and devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
