Florence Corbett Traut, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Born in Newburgh, New York, Florence was the daughter of the late James William Corbett and Florence Atkins Corbett. Florence was married to Charles O Hicks Sr. in 1960. They are survived by Sandra Regula, and Charles O Hicks Jr. Together, they ran Vale Electric Company. After the passing of Charles O. Hicks Sr. in 1972, Florence married Frederick G. “Bunky” Traut Jr. in 1974, blending their two families to include Frederick’s children Janet Brock (Randy), Frederick G. Traut III, Brian Traut (Michele,) and Gary Traut (deceased). Together, Florence and Frederick shared a deep love and passion for ballroom dancing, they spent over 25 years teaching dance, bringing joy and connection to many couples in the community.
A loving and supportive grandmother, she is survived by Anthony (Katie), Alexandra (Evan), Christina (Ryan), Charlie, Alyssa (Billy), Justin (Jaimie), Jessica, Kris (Julie), Sarah (Brandon), and Emily (Tyson). Florence was also a proud great-grandmother to Lucas, Julianna, Rosalie, Sophie, Cameron, Genevieve, Noah, Tobias, Klarisse, Karli, Joseph, Isaac, Nikolaus, Brianna, and Brooklyn, always cherishing time spent visiting and cherishing memories with them.
Florence also survived by her sister, Olive Jollie, and will be deeply missed by her extended family and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by Charles O. Hicks Jr, Frederick G. “Bunky” Traut Jr., her stepson Gary Traut, her grandchild Nikolaus Traut, and her siblings Lillian Corbett, James Corbett, Helen Rhoda, Maude Pearl Ciccone, Elizabeth Hiller, and Frank Corbett.
She was known for her strong faith and was a long-standing member of the St. Michael Lutheran Church in Nottingham, Maryland. Florence worked for several years at Evelyn’s on Main Street, where she was well-loved by customers and coworkers alike. She was also an avid shopper, frequenting her favorite stores like Macy’s, Boscov’s, and Hecht's. Her grace on the dancefloor, devotion to family, and loyalty as a friend made her a presence in every life she touched. Florence was the matriarch of the family, the one who brought everyone together and held them close. Her strength and unwavering faith will remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at McComas Family Funeral Homes in Bel Air, Maryland. A memorial will follow at Bel Air Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
