Enid Beth Farrand, age 84, of Forest Hill, MD, passed away on January 7, 2014 at Autumn Assisted Living in Bel Air, MD. Born in Richland Center, WI, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Guy and Ethel Lois Vasey Allbaugh and wife of the late Richard (Dick) Lee Farrand. She began teaching when she and Dick came to Maryland in 1958 at Havre de Grace High School and then part time for the then Harford Junior College, when classes were held at the Bel Air High School. She retired in 1989 as an Associate Professor of Biology at Harford Community College with over 25 years teaching primarily Anatomy and Physiology to nursing students. Afterwards, she continued to teach part-time at HCC and assisted with elementary school students in the classroom and at the Harford Glen Environmental Education Center. Her love of science and joy for learning was an integral part of her life and the many lives of those she touched. A longtime member of Bel Air United Methodist Church, she was active with United Methodist Women. She loved TERP basketball and the Orioles. She was an avid reader and participated in book clubs. She was entertained by playing Bridge, Scrabble and working crossword puzzles. Her hobbies were knitting and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. After retiring, she traveled extensively in the U.S. to national parks and abroad to places like Costa Rica, the Galapagos Islands, and Europe. Even though she was busy with many activities, the center of her life was always her family.
