Elmira S. Markline

b. January 11, 1914

ELMIRA S. MARKLINE, age 89, of Aberdeen, died in Mariner Health of Forest Hill on December 26, 2003. Born in White Hall, MD, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Georgia Ann Brewer Sutton, and the wife of the late Ross Edward Markline whom she married April 21, 1935. She worked as the treasurer/ vice president of the Super-Thermo Gas, Inc. which her husband began in 1931. She and her late husband pioneered the bottled gas business in Harford County and surrounding areas and initiated tank truck delivery, at one time serving over 5, 000 customers within a 40 mile radius of their store. Upon her retirement in 1972, she obtained her real estate license. She was a member of the Cranberry United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Harford Memorial Hospital and for Meals on Wheels. She served as a Sunday School teacher at Bethel Presbyterian Church for many years.

Mrs. Markline is survived by four daughters, Bettie Markline Clark of Phoenix, MD; Bonnie Jean Cleaver of Reisterstown, MD; Martha Ross Spice of Jarrettsville, MD; Patricia Jones of New Freedom, PA; 11 grandchildren, John Clark of Upperco, MD; Andrew Cleaver of Washington, D.C.; Tammy Gilmartin of Owings Mills, MD; Samantha Reese of Reisterstown, MD; Tanya Mowbray of New Freedom, PA; Ella Buraszeski of Abingdon, MD; Loren Spice of Jarrettsville; Wendy Amos of White Hall, MD; Kelly Francisco of Baltimore; Benjamin Spice of Jarrettsville, MD; Adam Spice of Jarrettsville, MD; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one grandson, Steven Ross Cleaver.

Pallbearers were: John Clark, Andrew Cleaver, Adam Spice, Benjamin Spice, Ralph Spice, and Joshua Gilmartin.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Cranberry United Methodist Church, 1632 Perryman Road, Aberdeen, Maryland 21001 will be appreciated.
