E. Jean Koontz

E. Jean Koontz, 87, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on November 28, 2023, at the home of her daughter and son in law.  Born in Bel Air, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Eleanor (Harkins) Minnick and wife of the late Hiley F. Koontz, Jr.  

Jean was a 1954 graduate of Bel Air High School. Over the years she worked for the federal, county, and state governments.  She was a member of Harford Chapter 83, Order of the Eastern Star and attended Mountain Christian Church.  In her earlier years she was part of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and she and her late husband were active in the Bush River Yacht Club.  They enjoyed many summers together cruising the Chesapeake Bay. 

Jean was a huge Ravens fan and loved to travel. She always had her suitcase ready at a moment's notice to set off on her next adventure.  After the death of her husband, she spent countless days traveling with her dear friend Margaret Kalmbacher.  They visited Hawaii numerous times, Alaska, Ireland, California and many areas up and down the east coast.  She has a special group of ladies who will dearly miss her at their Friday Happy Hours.  Jean was happiest spending time with her family. She loved cook outs, crabs and fall bonfires.

Jean is survived by her daughter Bernie, and her husband Craig Kogut; Son, Mark Koontz; Grandsons Steven, Matthew, and Jonathan Koontz of Arcata, California; and Daniel Kogut, and his wife Emily of Bel Air. She was preceded in death by her husband Hiley F. Koontz, Jr, her parents and her daughter in law, Cora Koontz.
