Edward Granville Carter, age 83, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Bel Air, Maryland.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Edward was the beloved son of the late Frank Louis Carter and the late Mary Stephenson (Hoover) Carter.
Edward was the devoted husband of the late Sarah Jane Shunk Carter, with whom he shared 20 wonderful years of marriage.
A proud United States Army Veteran, Edward honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional life to the automotive and trucking industry. For the final 25 years of his career, he worked for the Maryland Public Service Commission as an inspector for the transportation division, where he took great pride in helping ensure public safety.
Edward had a lifelong passion for cars, hot rods, and custom vehicles, especially his cherished 1940 DeSoto Sedan. Known by many as a gentle giant, he possessed an incredible sense of humor and was admired for his patience, kindness, and loving nature. He enjoyed music, particularly slow soft rock, and was truly a jack of all trades who could seemingly do just about anything.
In addition to his wife and parents, Edward was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Beverly Carter.
He is survived by his loving family: his son, Edward Mac Carter and his wife, Leah; grandchildren, Edward Alexander Carter and his fiancée, Annie; Wesley Jay Carter, and Madelyn Jane Carter; his sister, Joyce Carter; his brother, Frank Louis Carter, Jr.; his nephew, Bruce David Carter and his wife, Terry; daughter-in-law’s sister and her husband, Rachel and John Weaver, and their son, Nathan Stauffer; along with many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, and dear friends who will deeply miss him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
