Edith Lorrene Evans

January 18, 1935 — November 15, 2025

Edith Lorrene Evans of Edgewood, Maryland, went home to be with Jesus on November 15, 2025.

Born in Sparta, North Carolina, January 18, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Ray Alonzo Evans and Cynthia Mae (Crouse) Evans.

Edith was the heart and soul of her family. Among her many interests, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and reading, but she especially shined in the kitchen. An amazing cook and baker, she poured love into everything she made.

Her family especially loved her spiced peach jam, chocolate pies, carrot cake and her blueberry and cherry cheesecakes. Hosting cookouts, holidays, and special occasions for her family brought her tremendous joy.

Edith took great pride in creating a warm, welcoming home. She had a natural talent for decorating, and nothing made her happier than spending time with family and friends.

Her favorite places were the sunlit shores of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the beautiful mountains of her beloved Sparta, North Carolina.

Over a span of 25 years, Edith worked in several retail positions, including Taetles, Fashion Bug, and C-Mart, where she formed many lifelong friendships.

She will be fondly remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, wise counsel, and generous spirit.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Pamela Skrocki, and son-in-law Kenneth; her son, Larry Cage, and daughter-in-law Phyllis; and her sisters, Lois Carder (Donald) and Darlene Carter (Cortley).

She leaves behind six grandchildren: Rebecca Williams (Jacob), Matthew Skrocki (Madison), Jennifer Reese, Will Cage, Larry G. Cage, and Marianne Parker (Randy), ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, William Dale Cage.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to those who visited Edith faithfully: Her sisters Lois Carder and Darlene Carter; nieces Shelbie LeBeau and Sherry McGonigal; Michael McGonigal and cousin Patty Myers. Your presence brought love, comfort, compassion, and companionship during the last 3 very difficult years of Edith’s life.

Edith’s warm presence will be deeply missed by all who loved her. We look forward with hope and joy to an amazing reunion with her in Heaven.
