Dwight “Buck” Marshall Miller, Sr., age 78, of Edgewood, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Bel Air, Maryland. He went home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, kindness and devotion to his family.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Buck was the beloved son of the late Thomas Edgar Miller, Sr. and the late Josie Alene (Thompson) Miller. He was raised in West Virginia, where he developed a lifelong love for the mountains and the beauty of the area he called home.

Buck proudly served his country in the United States Army after being drafted during the Vietnam era. While serving overseas, he worked as a helicopter mechanic. After completing his tour of duty, he returned stateside, where he resided in Maryland and continued his career as an automobile mechanic. His mechanical abilities and love of automobiles remained an important part of his life. He worked 45 years for Chevrolet dealerships, including DeBonis and Adams Chevrolet, both in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

Buck was a devoted Christian whose faith was an important part of who he was. He was a member of VFW Post 5838 - Joppatowne, Maryland, and the American Legion Post 17 in Edgewood, Maryland. He was very proud of his military service and of the country he served.

Buck enjoyed many hobbies and interests throughout his life. He loved his truck and was passionate about all things automotive, especially Chevrolets. He enjoyed NASCAR, drag races, hunting, fishing and building models. He also loved spending time with his family around a good meal. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and the simple joys of being together. His family was his world, and he always put others first, making sure his wife and family were cared for and provided for. He was generous, kind and loving, and he had a special way of showing affection to those he loved, including giving his family affectionate nicknames.

Buck is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Heidemarie Miller of Edgewood, Maryland; his six children, Donna and Dale Sampson of Conowingo, and his 3 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; Dee and Jerry Knight of Darlington, Maryland, and his 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; Joseph Harris Bishop, Sr. and his wife Wanda of Harman, West Virginia, and his 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; Dwight Marshall Miller, Jr. and Gail of Bel Air, Maryland, and his 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; Thomas Wayne Miller, Sr. and Becky of Parsons, West Virginia, and his 4 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and Steven Bernard Miller and Kathy Long of Parsons, West Virginia. He is also survived by his younger brother, Craig Allen Miller and Susie Chisholm; his niece, Mikayla Suzann Miller of Middle Mountain, West Virginia; as well as a lot of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Buck is preceded in death by his sisters, Sharon Miller, Pamela Taylor and Regina Varner; and his brother, Thomas Edgar Miller, Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Buck will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Buck’s memory to support Wounded Warriors.
