Dorothy Gayle Selway, age 67, of Forest Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Forest Hill.
Born in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Harold Hoover Pierce and Margaret (Maddox) Pierce. She was the beloved wife of Charles Selway, with whom she shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.
Dorothy retired in 2019 from Sinai Hospital, where she worked as a dedicated medical/surgical secretary. She was also a talented author, having written a children’s book titled "The Story of Petey and Petunia." Her creative spirit shone through in her many hobbies, which included quilting, crafting, basket weaving, smocking, and earning the proud title of The BINGO Queen!
Dorothy’s greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. She loved playing games, working on puzzles, and reading stories with them. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and bowling together, making memories wherever they went.
A woman of many talents and a heart full of warmth, Dorothy was actively involved in 4-H while her children were young, serving as an adult volunteer. She also loved organizing events for family and friends, and her passion for country music often set the tone for joyful gatherings.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Bryan Pierce.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Selway; her loving daughters, Heather O’Hare and her husband John, and Laura Selway; and her cherished grandchildren: Megan Plater, Colin Plater, Quinn Plater, Lindsay O’Hare, and Logan O’Hare. She is also survived by her siblings: Wayne Pierce, Ronald Pierce, Jody Bachman, and Susan Beck.
Dorothy will be remembered for her creativity, her boundless love for family, and her joyful spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her.
