It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann Harris, who departed this life peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, at the age of 71.
Born in Panama, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late Maud Heloise (Lind) Wadford and C.L. Wadford. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Wadford.
Dorothy is survived by her cherished daughter, Nicole (Mitchell) Miller, and her cherished grandchildren: Christopher Payne, Corey Payne, Casey Payne, Aaron Miller, and Peyton Miller. She was a proud and loving great-grandmother to Everleigh Spillman, Cameron Payne, and Brian Payne.
She is also survived by her loving sisters, Katherine Chrystal and Deborah Buchman, and her long-time partner of nearly 40 years, Harvey Smith, who was her constant companion and source of strength and love, and his daughter Nancy Cunningham, and her son Eric.
Dorothy leaves behind many other dear family members and numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
Dorothy was known for her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength. She had a “Mona Lisa” smile that lit up every room she entered. She took joy in life's simple pleasures—needlepoint, creating personalized Christmas stockings for her loved ones, gatherings around steamed Maryland crabs, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and especially family vacations. Above all else, of every title she ever held, her favorite was “Grandma.”
She was a dedicated advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation having served on various committees of the Maryland chapter. She spent the last 2 decades caring for her great nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Her generous spirit and love for her family will continue to inspire those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a cause close to Dorothy's heart.
An online guestbook is available at mccomasfuneralhome.com, where friends and family may share memories and offer condolences.
Dorothy’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed.
