Dorothea Phyllis “Phyllis” Squires, lovingly known to many as “Momma P,” age 89, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the beloved daughter of the late August Philip Breidenstein and Dorothy Osma (Wilson) Breidenstein. She was the devoted wife of the late Reginald Kenneth Squires.
Phyllis was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and was known for her generous, giving spirit and unwavering strength throughout her life. A true fighter, she faced life’s challenges with grace and determination. She was known for always “dressing to the nines” and carried herself with elegance and confidence wherever she went. In her younger years, she enjoyed golfing and skiing and treasured the many memories made with family and friends.
She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters, Linda (Anthony) Yoor, Felecia Fischell, and Donna Squires; her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Ed Kress; and her nieces and nephews. Phyllis also had many honorary sons, daughters, and grandchildren who loved her dearly.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Verna Zosh, and her grandson, Cory Moore, her first husband and Linda’s father Elmer Jarvis and son-in-law Anthony Yoor.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Phyllis’ memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 206 Courtland Place, Bel Air, MD 21014 or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, https://www.bcrf.org/other-ways-give/.
