Obituary

Dianne Louise Kagay (77) of Estero, Florida formerly of Bel Air, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026. She was born on June 10, 1949 in Wilkes Barre, PA — the oldest daughter of Francis and Theresa Shiner.

She studied at St. Ann’s Academy where she deepened her faith and learned to love the Lord so much that she would sometimes find herself stopping in every Catholic Church on her walk home from school to pray. She met the love of her life, Steve Kagay during a theatrical performance while she attended Wilkes University and majored in English & Theater. They married on August 19, 1972 at St. Anthony Maronite Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and raised two boys, Stephen & Ryan in Bel Air, Maryland before relocating to Estero, Florida upon retirement.

Dianne was a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the definition of a homemaker. From baking amazing gourmet treats like Christmas cookies and caramel candies to sewing Halloween costumes or the latest clothing trends for her boys. She was the epitome of love — always generous with the most thoughtful gifts for friends and family alike and loved hosting a great party. She was an award winning crocheter even creating her own version of a crochet stitch used today called the "Ridgy Didge". She would crochet something for anyone who asked, including for charity events and newborn babies in the NICU, but she especially loved to see the faces of her beloved grandchildren when she presented them with a new blanket or Santa hat. She loved to sing in the choir and cantor at every Catholic Church she belonged to and you could often find her humming or singing a beautiful hymn. She encouraged all her grandchildren to pursue her love of music and handi-crafts and she gushed over every single one of them and their accomplishments bragging to anyone who would listen. She was the most amazing Sitto to her seven grandchildren and will be incredibly missed by all who loved her.

Dianne was preceded in death by her soulmate, Stephen W. Kagay, Sr. and her parents, Francis and Theresa Shiner, her brother-in-law Michael Kagay and her nephew, Christopher Kagay. She is survived by her sons — Stephen W. Kagay, Jr, his wife Anna and their son Gabriel (Chappaqua, NY) and Ryan F. Kagay, his wife Liz and their children Camille, Grace, John, Jacob, Abigail & Catherine (Argyle, TX), her siblings Betty (Nassif), Maureen (Patrick) & Frank (Suzanne), her sister-in-law, Carol Kagay as well as her nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026, at McComas Funeral Home in Abingdon, MD from 2 PM - 4 PM and/or 6 PM - 8 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 PM for all who would like to join.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM in Havre De Grace, MD.

Internment will be held at Mount Erin Cemetery immediately following the Mass at 910 Graceview Dr., Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

While memorial donations are not necessary, those who wish to honor Dianne's memory may make a contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
