Dennis George Wagner, 71, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dennis was the son of the late Jacob George Wagner and Blanche Emmalene (Buzzerd) Wagner. He was the beloved husband of Loretta Lynn (Nelson) Wagner, and a devoted father to Jessica Stewart and her husband Jonathan, Ashley Comer and her husband Kelly, and Stephanie Kalp and her husband Joshua. Dennis was a proud grandfather to Maya Stewart, Nathan Stewart, Oliver Comer, Chloe Comer, and Kora Kalp. He is also survived by his brother Richard “Dick” Wagner, along with many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Jacob “Sonny” Wagner and his sister Emma “Bonnie” Wagner.
When Dennis was younger, his Friday nights were often spent doing things he loved most—racing his prized ’68 Camaro or helping out at the Bel Air Auction Gallery, where his lifelong passion for auctioneering first began. He also enjoyed working on cars with his brother Dick, a shared hobby that sparked countless hours in the garage. Throughout his childhood, he always enjoyed giving his older sister Bonnie, a “run for her money”. That same energy and dedication carried into his professional life, where he became an accomplished and successful Senior Account Executive at Verizon. Dennis had a remarkable ability to connect with people, forming lifelong relationships built on mutual respect and genuine friendship.
Dennis and Lynn married in 1977 and spent a lifetime building memories together. They loved going to concerts, exploring yard sales, auctions, and flea markets, and taking their dogs on long drives. Some of their favorite moments were spent relaxing together—watching their favorite shows or enjoying dinner at their go-to restaurants. Dennis and Lynn also shared a love of travel, cherishing unforgettable trips to the Bahamas, both as a couple and with their children, as well as adventures in Miami, Orlando, and Mexico. Their life together was filled with laughter, devotion, and a deep and enduring partnership.
Outside of work, Dennis loved the outdoors, particularly hunting and shooting with his brother Sonny on their family property—a tradition he proudly shared with his daughters. One of his favorite trips was a duck-hunting weekend with his daughter Jessie, where they spent time in the blinds, enjoyed good food, and made lasting memories together. He loved going to the movies with Stephanie, their shared favorite pastime, and treasured Saturday morning hustling for the best antiques with Ashley.
Above all else, Dennis found immense joy in being a father. He loved coaching his daughters’ softball team, cheering them on from the sidelines at soccer and lacrosse games, and sharing life’s simple adventures with them. Jessie, Ashley, and Stephanie were the center of his world, and everything he did—whether working, playing, or relaxing—was with them in mind. Annual Family vacations to Ocean City was a shared tradition where he loved showing off his pool shark skills winning the girls the biggest stuffed animals. Dennis also loved his “boys’ nights” with his sons-in-law, heading out to their favorite restaurants for wings, beers, plenty of laughs and watching the Ravens and Orioles games.
After retiring from Verizon, Dennis discovered a new passion for antiques, turning that enthusiasm into a family business by founding Country Boy Antiques with his wife and daughters. Weekends often found them at auctions, searching for unique pieces, and learning the craft of refinishing furniture. Auctioneering became one of Dennis’s greatest joys—he loved the excitement of the crowd, the rhythm of the bidding, and the satisfaction of connecting buyers and collectors.
Dennis also fulfilled a lifelong dream when he and Lynn purchased a home on the Bush River, where he found peace and happiness. He spent countless hours boating, fishing, and simply admiring the water’s beauty. A man of many interests, Dennis delighted in his muscle cars, shooting billiards, playing cards, and reminiscing with friends and family.
He cherished every moment with his grandchildren—teaching them how to fish, teaching them to play cards, taking them to arcades, and sharing his humor, guidance, and love. His generous heart extended to all creatures, especially his beloved dogs—Bandit, Scruffy, Libby, and Charlie—who brought him constant companionship and joy.
Dennis lived a life full of love, laughter, and connection. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew him. His life was a reflection of passion, hard work, and the simple joys that meant the most to him.
