David Leon Tanenbaum, resident of Bel Air for nearly 60 years, died on June 29, 2014. Mr. Tanenbaum was born in New York City in 1930, the son of the late Alexander Tanenbaum and Esther Lozovitsky Tanenbaum. He grew up in Providence and was graduated from the University of Rhode Island. In the Army during the Korean War Mr. Tanenbaum came to what was then Edgewood Arsenal; he stayed on for a civilian career at the Chemical Systems Laboratory. After retiring from Federal service, Mr. Tanenbaum worked in the math department at Harford Community College, both as an instructor and as a tutor. He also volunteered at Harford County's SARC. In his later years, and to the eternal mortification of his loved ones, he indulged his affection for the New York Yankees.
Mr. Tanenbaum is survived by his daughter, Sarah A. Fedele, and her husband, Paul, of Street; his son, Paul J. Tanenbaum, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Bel Air; his sister, Judith R. Nemzer of New York, NY; five grandchildren, Jacob T., Anne Griffith, and William T. Tanenbaum, all of Bel Air, and Samuel J. and Leah R. Fedele, both of Street. Also surviving him are his step-daughter, Deborah M. Batzer, her husband, John, and children, Kyle and James; and his step-son, David Moxey, Jr., his wife, Ann, and daughter, Kelsey. He was predeceased by his former wife, Paulette F. Tanenbaum, and his second wife, Carol A. Tanenbaum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harford County Public Library Foundation, 1221-A Brass Mill Road, Belcamp, MD 21017.
