Obituary

David Charles Ball (76), of Bel Air, Maryland, was called into glory and the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Born in Somers Point, New Jersey, to John Howard Ball, Jr. and Betty Norma (Groves) Ball. John and Betty's faithful example rooted David in a life of faith and devotion. Always preaching the gospel, using words if necessary.

While studying Chemical Engineering at Virginia Tech, David met the love of his life, Jennifer. In 1972, David and Jennifer were married, and they spent 54 wonderful years together. David cherished Jennifer, and they were virtually inseparable.

Like their heavenly Father, David and Jennifer always had a heart for children. They opened their home to children in need for over 25 years, fostering 57 infants and children during that time. They raised 11 children to adulthood and now have 24 grandchildren. And following the example of their own parents, they taught them to love and honor God.

David faithfully provided for his family through a career in telecommunications, starting in 1972. He was dedicated to the same company for over 43 years (Bell System/Verizon). He valued commitment and cared for the people he worked with. He ultimately retired from Verizon in 2015, but he never stopped working.

David and Jennifer’s love filled up their house and overflowed into the broader community around them, especially their church. Most recently they attended Cornerstone Community Church in Joppatowne, Maryland, where they delighted to worship their God and hear His Word preached.

David had a deep and abiding love for the Word of God. He never tired of searching the Scriptures and could always be found with a good book or commentary. David’s personal library would be the envy of many pastors and theologians. David was also eager to share this love with others and enjoyed leading Bible studies and Sunday Schools.

David was an avid gardener and enjoyed all the wonders of God’s creation. The family in his home was beautiful, and so were the gardens that surrounded it.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Ball, and his brother, John Ball, III. David is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer, his children, Matthew (Mandy) Ball, Alissa (Aaron) Hartland, Meredith (Ben) Wright, Nathan Ball, Rachel (Peter) Rae, Grace Ball, Lydia (Chris) Ball, Elias Ball, Emma Ball, and Margery (Pedro) Del Cid, and 24 cherished grandchildren.
