It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Paul Godwin, age 67, of Abingdon, Maryland, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Daniel was born in Baltimore, MD, and was the beloved son of the late Milton and Patricia (Stebbing) Godwin.
Daniel, known as Dan was a loving husband to wife Kathleen Marie Godwin for over 45 beautiful years. He was also a devoted father to his two sons, Matthew (and wife Kimberly) Godwin and Philip Godwin, and a loving brother to his cherished brothers and sisters Thomas Godwin, Sharon Brown, Linda Knipe, Denise Pfeltz, and Shelly Streett. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Lauren Christine Godwin and by his parents Milton and Patricia Godwin.
A man who loved with all his heart, Daniel's family was his world. He was an extraordinary father who made countless memories with his children. Known for his spontaneous and adventurous spirit, he would often take his children on exciting trips by airplane, whether it was a day trip to Boston, a visit to Niagara Falls, or a spontaneous journey to Alabama just to look at a car. His dedication to his family ran so deep that he even worked nights to ensure he could spend more time with them during the day.
Daniel worked for many years at Giant Supermarket before pursuing his passion as an airplane mechanic with U S Air. His career was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to his craft. But beyond work, he was a man who treasured life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for the Baltimore Ravens, the Orioles, and especially his Toyotas. He was a fan of disco music and the Beatles and enjoyed spending time at the beach, where he would build massive sandcastles. He spent countless hours with his dad and family on “The Patty Wagon” crabbing and enjoying the water.
An avid music lover, Daniel was proud to be a member of the Men's Chorus of the Chesapeake, and he loved singing with them. His favorite holiday was Halloween, a time when he would decorate his yard with haunted cornfields and go all out with lights and inflatables for Christmas, delighting neighbors and passersby. His love for the beach, particularly Wildwood, NJ, created lasting memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his family.
He loved his Boston Terriers, Gatsby Fitzgerald and Edgar Allen Poe. They had him well trained to play ball all day and sneak them goodies. They will miss him a lot.
Contributions can be made in Daniel's memory to The National Kidney Foundation.
Daniel’s legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He was truly one of a kind, and his family will forever cherish the wonderful memories they shared together.
