Daniel E. O'Brien, 81, of Edgewood, MD, passed away on January 25, 2015 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Daniel Edward O'Brien Sr. and Helen Renee Callahan Bittner. He served in the U.S. Air Force for several years. He attended St. John's University in New York where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. He taught at Alvernia College in Reading, PA. He served as an Historian at Aberdeen Proving Ground where he subsequently became Curator of the Ordinance Museum for over 20 years. After retiring from the Federal Government, he taught history at the community colleges at Baltimore and Harford County. In later years, he served as a PACE instructor with the U.S. Navy which allowed him to travel the world on Navy vessels while teaching history.
Mr. O'Brien is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Virginia Ann O'Brien (nee Lynch) also of Brooklyn, NY; daughters, Judith Danielle Simpson and husband, Jimmy, of Edgewood, Jennifer Ann Sams and Scott Hanna, of Edgewood, and Lauren Anne O'Brien of Abingdon; and grandson, Brett Taylor Hanna.
