Cynthia H. Tate

Cynthia H. Tate passed away on February 15, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born on October 30, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland she is predeceased by her parents Bertha and Lonnie M. Hill of Baltimore, Maryland.


She graduated from Edmondson Senior High School in 1963, and then went on to pursue studies at Morgan State University.  In 1969 she took a position in public service that would lead her to a 38-year career with the Social Security Administration where her work touched the lives of millions of Americans.


Cynthia was a no-nonsense, practical and creative person. Her quiet strength always made it clear where she stood. She was an avid reader, sometimes reading as many as 12 books in a month. She enjoyed playing board games especially trivia games which led to her love for watching the television game show Jeopardy.  Cynthia enjoyed music and concerts, and often had music playing in the background throughout the house. Her favorite artist was Pattie Labelle.  She would go on several cruises over the years with trips to Puerto Rico, Mexico and Bermuda. She was an incredible cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends especially for the holidays. In her younger years she was an accomplished seamstress making many of her own clothes. Later in life, she developed a love for holiday decorating, including building elaborate Christmas village displays that grew and changed from year to year.


Cynthia is survived by her son, Michael Corey and his wife Kiersten of York, Pennsylvania, daughter, Royce Tate of Edgewood, Maryland, and grandson Braydon Corey of York, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Harper of Bel Air, Maryland and a host of other relatives and friends. Her brother Lonnie M. Hill Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland followed her in death on February 18, 2022.
