Obituary

It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Constance "Connie" (Skidmore) Clark, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Bel Air, Maryland, at the age of 92.

Born January 16, 1934 in Junior, West Virginia, Connie was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas Freeman Skidmore and Phyllis Marie (Corley) Skidmore. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and service to others. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, creativity, and cherished traditions.

Connie attended Tygart Valley High School, where she participated in the Glee Club and 4-H. She married the love of her life, John William "Bill" Clark, on May 7, 1955, and together they built a beautiful family and a home filled with love. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church since 1969 and treasured the traditions and fellowship she found there.

A dedicated homemaker and caregiver, Connie worked tirelessly to care for her large family. She was known for her talents in canning, cooking, sewing, crafting, floral design, and tackling nearly any project that came her way. Whether she was fixing something, building something new, or creating a handmade gift, she approached every task with determination and creativity. She loved yard sales, thrift shops, and finding a great bargain.

Christmas was always a major production in the Clark household, filled with decorations, traditions, gifts, and the warmth that only Connie could create. She was also a longtime 4-H Club leader for the Cobras, dedicating many years to mentoring and encouraging young people.

Connie's many interests included acting, singing, playing her father's guitar, gardening, card games, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed making her own wine and vinegar, planting flowers and vegetables wherever she could, and sharing her talents with those around her. She even appeared on and won an episode of You Bet Your Life hosted by Bill Cosby.

Known for her quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor, Connie often shared sayings such as, “If you can’t be good, name it after me,” and “I’d rather be funny than right.” She loved attending church “sings” as a young girl, faithfully attended Sunday school throughout her childhood, and treasured gathering with loved ones, especially during her beloved annual Fourth of July celebrations.

Above all, Connie's greatest joy was her family. She had an incredible memory and a gift for making every person feel welcomed, loved, and special. Her kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be remembered always.

Connie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John William "Bill" Clark; her daughters, Anna Marie Clark and Mattie Lou Clark; her parents, Thomas Freeman Skidmore and Phyllis Marie (Corley) Skidmore; sister Kathleen Skidmore Munka, sister-in-law, Betty Skidmore; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Munka.

She is survived by her children, Michael William (Valorie) Clark, Alice Faye Perdue (Richard Skarzenski), Deborah Lynn (Brian) Clark-Petz, Mark Patrick Clark, Amy Kathleen (Jeremy) Andrews, and Sherrie (Ian) Clark Stump; her grandchildren, Michelle (Curtis) Ballard, Thomas Clark, Daniel (Ashley) Petz, Erin (Brad) Nizer, Ashley (Joshua) Caldrone, Joshua Petz, Sean (Jackie) Perdue, Jeremy Andrews II, Emily (Matthew) Peters, Harley (Hunter) Padgett, Taylor Stump, and Grayson Stump; her great-grandchildren, Bradley Nizer, Brooke Petz, Kyle Petz, Graham Nizer, Claire Nizer, Harper Petz, Bristol Ballard, Logan Ballard, Jeremy Andrews III, Delia Padgett, Jameson Padgett, Gavin Caldrone, Addison Caldrone, Amy Padgett, Grace Peters, Hattie Petz, Miles Perdue, Clark Peters, and Scott Padgett; her brothers, Thomas R. Skidmore, William J. Skidmore, and David A. (Tess) Skidmore; her uncle, Jewel Corley; her cherished "twin," Shirley Ray Baldwin (Aunt); and many other loving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air or Harford County 4-H.

"Her greatest joy was her family, and her greatest legacy is the love she leaves behind."
