Chief Jim Terrell, age 67, of Street, MD passed away on September 18, 2014 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William C. and Mildred W. Terrell. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country during Vietnam. He was a 1965 graduate of Bel Air High School and attended CCBC-Essex. Jim started in 1968 as an Emergency Equipment Dispatcher, he was promoted to Emergency Equipment Dispatcher III in 1973 and to shift supervisor in 1981. In 1985 he was promoted to Chief, Emergency Communications Division which was reclassified to Chief, Emergency Management & Operations in 1993. He retired in July of 1999. He went on to work at Hart to Heart Ambulance in management for 9 years after retirement, and later, for the H.B.I. (Harford Bureau of Investigations) part time for 3 years. A volunteer for Darlington VFC for 51 years, he was inducted into the Harford- Cecil Firemen's Hall of Fame in 2008, and started the Harford County Hazmat Team and remained as a member. He was a man of many talents and trades, loved the Orioles, Ravens, the mountains and Ocean City, and going to his favorite place, Starbucks.
Chief Terrell is survived by his wife, Leslie S. Terrell (Serra); sons, John W. Terrell and girlfriend, Holly, of Street, Spencer Tolliver and girlfriend, Cassandra, of Abingdon and Brian Serra and wife, Rhiannon, of Street; grandchildren, Jordon Scarborough, Kaydance Scarborough and Delanie Sargent. Also survived by many cousins, sisters-in-law Renee Serra, Tracey Tolliver and Dawn Serra, and brothers-in-law Alan Serra and Keith Serra. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Alicia Greenlund.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Darlington VFC on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Interment was at Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, PA. Pallbearers were Brian Serra, Spencer Tolliver, Jerry Scarborough, Rick Ayers, Mark Harkins, Kevin Hill, Mike Brunicke and Dennis Cox. Honorary pallbearers were the fire companies and Harford County.
