Cheryl A. Berryman Burkett (Fisher), age 72, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel Berryman and the late Gloria Regina (Helinski) Moeller.
Cheryl was the devoted wife of Oscar Ulysses Fisher, Jr. Together they shared many years filled with love, music, laughter, and cherished memories. Their special song was “At Last” by Etta James, a reflection of the deep bond they shared throughout their life together.
A passionate educator, Cheryl dedicated her career to teaching at Johns Hopkins and Baltimore County Public Schools. She primarily taught Special Education, English, and Art, and her longest term of teaching was in School to Career. Cheryl earned her Master of Science in Special Education, and while she retired from Hereford High School, she most loved teaching the children at Rosedale Center for Alternative Studies. Cheryl was deeply committed to helping her students grow and succeed, and her compassion and creativity left a lasting impression on many lives.
Her soul spoke through art. Cheryl loved writing poetry, drawing, and making crafts, always expressing herself through creativity and imagination. She was extremely kind, well-organized, and attentive to detail in all aspects of her life. Cheryl was also known as a wonderful cook who loved gathering family together around a meal.
Above all, Cheryl treasured time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She had a deep love for animals and supported causes close to her heart. In her younger years, Cheryl enjoyed hiking and exploring antique stores alongside her husband. She also loved music and dancing and even taught choreography for a short period of time.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Oscar Ulysses Fisher, Jr.; her daughters, Erin (Dom) Parisi, Whitney (Michael) Dedona, and Alexandra Walker; her cherished grandchildren, Breslin, Lee, Silas, Sydney, Lexi, and Henley; and her brothers, Richard (Debbie) Berryman and Robert (Shelley) Berryman.
