Cherie Ann Johnson, age 74, of Thomasville, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. She was born August 23, 1950, in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Luman Johnson and Anna Johnson.
Cherie graduated from Parkersburg High School, Class of 1968, where she toured Europe playing her violin with their classical orchestra. She then received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from West Virginia Tech in 1972. She maintained her love of music and education while raising four children through teaching strings to local children.
As her own children entered adulthood, she continued her education by obtaining her Master's degree in ESL Education from Salem College in 2007, substitute teaching while doing so. She then began her final career as the ESL teacher at Thomasville High School. In her retirement, she continued to teach strings for The Arts Academy at Memorial.
Throughout her life, Cherie was an active member of her local church congregations, lastly at her home church, Memorial United Methodist, where she shared her musical gifts by singing in the choir and playing violin and bells. She regularly performed as a villager in Memorial's annual "Star of Bethlehem" living nativity and volunteered at their "Empty Bowls" charity events.
She also volunteered her time and talents to the town she fell in love with, performing violin at Thomasville's annual "Light Up the Holidays" festivities and becoming an active member of the Thomasville City Beautification Committee, helping set up the vintage animatronic window displays each Christmas and helping them with as many of their endeavors as she could.
In her free time, Cherie appreciated all of the arts, enjoying various artistic crafts like sewing clothing, cross-stitching, painting, and most recently, diamond dot art.
She was a loyal servant of our lord had a huge heart and was a dedicated mother who would do anything for her children, and a doting grandmother who loved her grandbabies immensely.
Cherie is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Rachel Johnson; nephew, Benjamin Johnson; her children, Jennifer Kinosh, Phillip George, Amy Garland, and Anna Lineberry; her grandbabies, Iian Scott-George, Elijah Triplette, Jasmine George, Brandon Miller, Jewel Sattenfield, Delilah Lineberry, Elizabeth Bowyer, Ashton Bowman, and Samuel Bowman; and lastly, her great grand babies, Easton Griffen and Hazel Triplette.
She is preceded in death by her parents Luman & Anna Johnson, and Son Stephen George.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, 18 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC. Following the visitation will be a memorial service at 1:00 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC.
