Charles Robert "Bob" Grue

May 17, 1931 — January 3, 2024

Charles Robert "Bob" Grue, age 92, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on January 3, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Vincent and Amy (Campaigne) Grue and the devoted husband of the late Helen Patricia “Pat” Grue.  They were married 71 years before Pat’s passing in May 2023.   Bob served his country with honor, as Teleman (yeoman) 2nd Class, US Navy, and as a proud veteran.  He served on the USS Oberon and the USS New Jersey between 1952 and 1960.
Bob worked very hard to support his family as a linotype operator for several publishing organizations in the Baltimore area.   In his spare time he enjoyed bowling with his lovely wife Pat.  He had a mean hook and a darn good average.  Bob especially enjoyed watching the Orioles, but if it was a sport and it was on TV, he would watch it.
Bob was an active and dedicated member of the Bel Air Lions Club, where he played a crucial role in various community initiatives. He passionately contributed to the club's fruit sales, Christmas tree sales, and served as the esteemed publisher of the Lions Club Sentinel Newsletter. Throughout the years, he held numerous leadership positions within the organization, leaving an indelible mark on the community he cherished. Bob was a proud member in good standing of American Legion Post 39 in Bel Air for 33 years.
He is survived by his loving sons, Robert Charles Grue, wife Nancy; and Stephen Anthony Grue, wife Jennifer; and daughters, Carol Ann Klein, husband Edward; Marie Louise Christensen, husband Wayne; and Gloria Pauline Wolcott, husband Larry. Bob leaves behind a legacy that extends through his 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Grue.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Patricia “Pat” Grue, his parents Vincent and Amy Grue, his stepmother, Angeline Ann Grue(who raised Bob from the age of five), and four of his siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101) https://www.stjude.org/donate,  or Shriner's Children's Hospital (3551 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140) https://lovetotherescue.org.  in memory of Charles Robert "Bob" Grue.
