Carl Edward Johnson Jr., 64, of Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Born in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Carl was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and dear friend.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Elmira (King) Johnson, and two sons, Luke Johnson and his wife Jessica, and Caleb Johnson and his partner Laura. His greatest joy was being a grandfather to his four young grandchildren: Rowan, Raymond, Benjamin, and Maxwell Johnson. He cherished his friendship and closeness with his brother, Sean Johnson, and his wife Karen. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Edward Johnson Sr., and his brother, Mark Johnson.
Carl possessed infinite curiosity and a talent for working with his hands. Known to many as a trickster with a sharp wit and even sharper mind, he had a knack for fixing problems with clever, often genius solutions. He enjoyed history and working on the family farm where he found peace in tending to the horses and maintaining the property with the meticulous detail he applied to all things in his life. His strong sense of right and wrong, loyalty, and compassion guided his life and the relationships he built.
Carl recently surpassed six years of sobriety, which he attributed to the love of his family, his devotion to God, and the Helping Up Mission where he called home for the duration of this journey. He gave back to this community by mentoring and encouraging others on their own recoveries.
There is nothing Carl wouldn't do for the people he loved and others who needed his help. Those fortunate enough to have known him will remember his strength, creativity, humor, and unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carl’s memory may be made to the Helping Up Mission using give.helpingupmission.org.
