Carl Cudworth, age 76, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Born in Wanchese, North Carolina, Carl was the son of the late Louis Napoleon Cudworth and Aileen (Daniels) Cudworth.

Carl shared a remarkable love story with his beloved wife, Sara A. (Shaver) Cudworth. Married for 55 years, the two had been together since Carl was just 19 years old. Their enduring partnership was the foundation of a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

A respected Maryland Docking Pilot, Carl dedicated 49 years of his life to working on the water. Throughout his distinguished career, he safely docked thousands of ships, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the maritime community. His passion for the Chesapeake Bay and maritime industry remained a defining part of his life.

Above all else, Carl was devoted to his family. He treasured time spent with his wife, sons, and loved ones. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved ShiChon dog, Maddie, whose companionship brought him great joy.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Sally A. Cudworth; his sons, Aaron Cudworth and his wife, Jennifer, Ethan Cudworth, and Jordan Cudworth; and his brother, Curtis Cudworth and his wife, Susan. He is also survived by extended family members and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Carl was a long-standing member of Mt Christian Church, Joppa Md. He had a strong relationship with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Following his extended bout with Alzheimer’s disease he looked forward to taking up residence in his heavenly home.

Carl will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his distinguished career on the water, his quiet strength, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 2 - 3 PM at Mountain Christian Church, 1824 Mountain Road, Joppa, MD  21085.
