On Monday, June 6, 2022, Burdiuss Sawyers, Sr., loving husband and father of five, departed this earthly life at the age of 90.
Burt, as he was known by friends was born on May 23, 1932 to Mary Elizabeth Potter Sawyers and Charles Sawyers in Praise, Ky.
After his Honorable US Air Force Discharge in September 1953, he settled in Cecil County, MD. Shortly thereafter, in November 1953, Burt met the sweetheart of his life, Mary M. Miller. The two forever sweethearts joined together in their union of marriage on August 25, 1955.
A builder by trade, Burt built a custom home in Harford County for his growing family. Together, He and Mary raised their five children, Burdiuss Jr, Norris, Paula, Robert and John.
Burt became a Master Craftsman and business owner. His business flourished and remained in high demand well after his retirement.
His life was not defined by his trade. Burt was a man with many interests: fishing, crabbing and hunting were his greatest outdoor pleasures. Additionally, Burt was an avid gardener who delighted himself and Mary with the beauty of flowers, trees and shrubs. Burt also prided himself with vegetable and fruit gardens which were always plentiful for his family, friends and neighbors to enjoy! He was also known for planting and raising figs as well.
Burt relished in reading and following sports, along with enjoying the sport of playing card games with family and friends with lively conversations, fabulous meals and pleasure. Burt and Mary attended many functions of the American Legion 91. He was fond of dancing and two-stepping with the love of his life Mary. He kept himself available on the dance floor for widows and ladies alike, for the pleasure of enjoying music and the company of people.
Burt’s greatest joy above all was the joy of his personal relationship with his Lord and Savior. Burt studied God’s Word and desired sharing The Word with anyone. He was a Lay Minister at Porter’s Grove Baptist Church in Rising Sun, MD. Burt humbly and proudly served as a Sunday School teacher and served in many areas as well in his previous years.
Burt will be remembered and greatly missed by all.
