Obituary

Betty Arlene Cooper, age 94, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Born in Reisterstown, Maryland, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Amos Wesley Cole and Nina Clifta (Howard) Cole. She was the devoted wife of the late John Alexander Cooper.

In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings: William Cole, Eugene Cole, Robert Cole, Charles Cole, Laura Bauerlein, and Dorothy Cook.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Martin Cooper and his wife Laura, Victor Cooper, and Douglas Cooper; as well as 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Betty’s family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in caring for and nurturing those she loved.

Betty was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church and was deeply involved in her community. She was also a dedicated lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed spending time at the VFW.

Growing up on a farm, Betty developed a lifelong love of gardening, which she continued for many years, providing fresh food for her family. She also enjoyed stitching and found joy in simple, meaningful hobbies. Betty especially treasured traveling across the United States on bus trips with her dear friend, Evelyn Hohne.

She will be remembered as a down-to-earth, kind, and wonderful woman who was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the American Legion of Bel Air, 500 N. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014.
