Bernice Fitch

Bernice Madeline Fitch, age 85, of Abingdon, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Born in Wilkes Barre, PA, Bernice was the daughter of the late Charles Francis Gallagher and Anna Regina (Eyerman) Gallagher. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Joseph Fitch.

Bernice was a devoted mother to Susan Pagano and Robert Butterfield. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Selena McNamara and her husband Patrick, James Butterfield and his wife Olivia, Abigail Pagano, and Hannah Billings and her husband Cameron; and great grandchildren Landon, Finley, Kaulder, Jasper, Liam, Decker, Xander, and Baylor.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her son, James Butterfield and brother, Charles Gallagher.

Bernice had a warm and vibrant personality, and her life was filled with the simple joys she loved most—spending time with family she got great joy spending time with her great grandchildren, baking, and caring for her home. Each Christmas, she would spend the day baking Italian cookies with her family, creating sweet memories that will be forever cherished. She had a passion for shopping. Bernice found joy in houseplants and adored the beach—particularly trips to Ocean City.

A lifelong animal lover, Bernice shared her home and heart with her two beloved Shih Tzus, Candy, and Cricket.
